FAQ

What happens if HoldCart goes down?

Your checkout keeps working. HoldCart is fail-open by design — our servers are never in the checkout path, and the reservation check allows the sale on any doubt. The worst case is that the last snapshot keeps reserving a held unit for up to a day before it self-expires; in practice reservations release within minutes, and we run an external watchdog plus a fail-safe that can clear reservations even if the app is down.

What should I do before I uninstall?

Always open Settings → "Disable protection on all products" first. To hold inventory, HoldCart sets protected products to keep selling past zero stock; this button reverts every product to normal in one click. Then it's safe to uninstall.

The countdown doesn't appear on my product page

Check two things: the HoldCart app embed is enabled in the theme editor (App embeds), and the product is actually protected in the HoldCart dashboard. The widget only activates on protected products.

Does it work with my theme?

HoldCart works on any Online Store 2.0 theme via an app embed — no theme code. It intercepts add-to-cart for both classic and AJAX themes, and always fails open so a HoldCart issue can never block a sale.

Why is "Buy it now" hidden on my protected products?

Dynamic checkout buttons skip the cart, so a shopper who reserved an item could end up blocking their own checkout. HoldCart hides "Buy it now" on protected products so the reservation flows correctly. You can turn this off in the app embed settings, but we recommend leaving it on.

Does it work with point of sale or subscriptions?

Reservations are enforced at online-store checkout, so the app isn't aware of point-of-sale or other channels. Subscription and selling-plan products are excluded from protection and behave normally.
